Provision of Goods Worth 4.85 Million Won in Addition to Legal Allowances and Actual Expenses
The Daejeon Jung-gu Election Commission announced that it has reported candidate A and seven members of the election camp to the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office on charges of providing money and valuables to election workers beyond the legally prescribed allowances and actual expenses during the Jung-gu mayoral by-election held on April 10.
They are accused of providing a total of approximately 4.85 million won in money and valuables to about 40 election workers in addition to the legal allowances and actual expenses, falsely stating or omitting these expenditures in the election expense accounting report, and exceeding the election expense limit.
The Public Official Election Act prohibits anyone from providing money, valuables, or other benefits to election-related personnel beyond allowances and actual expenses in connection with election campaigning. Violations of this law are punishable by up to seven years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won.
An official from the Daejeon Election Commission stated, "Acts that violate the Public Official Election Act and the Political Funds Act, such as providing money and valuables or making false reports in election expense accounting, which undermine fair election order, will be thoroughly investigated and dealt with strictly."
