Interim Report Meeting on the Survey Research Project
Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun: "Committed to Expanding Elderly Welfare and Building Infrastructure"
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province is expanding welfare for the rapidly increasing elderly and middle-aged single-person households.
Hwaseong City announced on the 1st that it held an interim report meeting on the "Research Service for the Policy Support of Elderly and Middle-aged Single-person Households in Hwaseong City" on the 31st of last month. This research service aims to proactively respond to social changes caused by the increase in elderly and middle-aged single-person households and to prepare support measures.

In Hwaseong City, the elderly population stands at 100,739 (as of May), accounting for 10.6% of the total city population. The city especially anticipates an increase in demand for elderly welfare services due to the rise in life expectancy leading to a surge in the population aged 85 and older, and the entry into old age of the "Baby Boom" generation born between 1959 and 1964. The city plans to respond proactively to this trend.
The research agency reported at the meeting the results of surveys conducted to establish customized elderly welfare policies, including ▲the actual conditions of elderly support and family relationships ▲economic status, economic activities, and health care conditions of the elderly ▲leisure and social activities, living environment, and welfare needs ▲and perceptions of old age such as elderly retirement preparation and the agents responsible for such preparation.
Additionally, to prepare policies for middle-aged single-person households, the agency investigated ▲the actual conditions and demand analysis of middle-aged single-person households ▲support policies and measures for middle-aged single-person households, proposing appropriate middle-aged policies and sharing proactive response plans for vulnerabilities and needs of middle-aged single-person households.
The final report, scheduled for November this year, will present specific customized elderly welfare policies and support policies for middle-aged single-person households reflecting the opinions from this interim report. Based on the research results, the city plans to develop tailored policies to improve the quality of life for middle-aged single-person households and the elderly.
Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "We will do our best to establish elderly welfare policies and build public infrastructure to create a welfare Hwaseong that leaps toward a special city, surpassing a population of one million."
