Han Juyeop raised his momentum by attempting attacks early in the match, but conceded waza-ari after 1 minute and 44 seconds due to a leg sweep. Later, with 38 seconds remaining in the match, he was defeated by an uchi-mata counter throw.
Earlier, Han Juyeop was defeated by ippon by Georgia's world No. 1 Lasha Bekauri in the quarterfinals, which ended his chance to advance to the semifinals and sent him to the repechage. Had he defeated Macedo, he could have secured a ticket to the bronze medal match, but he lost by ippon.
