On the 31st, Han Juyeop won by waza-ari with a seoi nage against world-ranked 32nd John Jane (USA) in the men's 90kg round of 16 at the Champs de Mars venue in Paris, France.
Around 1 minute and 20 seconds into the match, Han Juyeop attempted a surprise throw and succeeded in lifting his opponent into the air but unfortunately failed to complete the throw. After a prolonged tactical battle, both players received a shido at 2 minutes and 22 seconds. Then, with 2 seconds remaining in the match, Han Juyeop successfully executed a seoi nage, scoring waza-ari, and pulled his opponent’s right hand gripping his collar to throw him down to the mat.
In the previous round of 32, Han Juyeop achieved an ippon victory over world-ranked 82nd Karmel Kone (Burkina Faso) with a shoulder throw. When Kone failed the throw and lost balance, Han quickly moved behind him and choked him using the collar of the judogi.
Korean judo had won one silver medal (women’s 57kg Heo Mimi) and one bronze medal (men’s 81kg Lee Junhwan) as of the previous day.
