Professor Seokyeongdeok: "Why Do These Incidents Keep Happening?"
"They Must Be Properly Corrected Through Legitimate Protests"
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently sparked controversy by posting a Taekwondo-related video on its official social media account but mistakenly labeling it as 'Judo.' On the 31st, Professor Seokyung Deok from Sungshin Women's University pointed out, "After receiving reports from many netizens, we confirmed that the Taekwondo video was incorrectly tagged with '#Judo'."
This is not the first time a mistake related to South Korea has occurred at the Paris Olympics. Earlier, during the Olympic opening ceremony, the announcer mistakenly introduced 'Republic of Korea' as 'North Korea,' causing controversy. Additionally, on the 28th, when reporting the news of Oh Sangwook winning the gold medal in the men's individual sabre fencing event, the organizing committee mistakenly wrote Oh Sangwook's English name as 'Oh Sanggu.'
Moreover, French media combined the flags of South Korea and Japan to create a Korean flag, and in the medal tally chart, they used the South African flag instead of the Taegukgi when introducing South Korea's ranking, drawing criticism. In particular, '9NEWS,' one of the most representative news outlets in Australia, caused controversy by displaying the Chinese Five-star Red Flag instead of the Korean Taegukgi when presenting the overall rankings of the Paris Olympics.

Professor Seo said, "Why do these incidents keep happening?" and added, "Reports about the Paris Olympics from around the world continue to contain incorrect representations of the Republic of Korea." He emphasized, "In this situation, rather than just criticizing and getting angry, it is more important to make proper corrections through legitimate protests," and stressed, "Your reports can change the image of the Republic of Korea."
Netizens who came across this news responded with various comments such as, "If mistakes keep happening, they are no longer mistakes," "Why are there so many errors in this Olympics?" and "If they had checked even once more before posting, these incidents could have been avoided."
