Palestinian armed faction Hamas' top political leader Ismail Haniyeh has reportedly died in an Israeli attack in Tehran, the capital of Iran, causing a surge in oil-related stocks.
As of 2:20 PM on the 31st, Heungkuk Oil is hitting the upper limit price, rising 29.95% from the previous day to 17,400 KRW. Korea Petroleum is also trading up 26.07% from the previous day at 20,600 KRW.
According to foreign media, Hamas announced in a statement posted on its Telegram account that Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli attack in Tehran the day before. Haniyeh was one of Hamas' senior leaders, leading the political bureau, and attended the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held on the 30th.
Experts believe that with the Gaza Strip war between Israel and Hamas entering its tenth month, the assassination of one of Hamas' senior leaders, Haniyeh, in the heart of Iran will cause significant upheaval in the Middle East situation.
