About 90 Students and Professors from Daetbaram, Chimmak, and Hwangjido Yeonsuk Clubs Participate
The College of Korean Medicine at Dong-Eui University (Dean Kim Jongwon) conducted the 2024 Korean Medicine Volunteer Service, "Donguibogam on the Go (Dong-Eui University College of Korean Medicine Boyang-Gonggam Clinic)," during the summer vacation from July 14 to 26 in Jeongdong-myeon, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam; Goryu-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam; and Gampo-eup, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk.
This year, about 90 students and faculty advisors from the academic clubs Daetbaram, Chimmek, and Hwangjidoyeonsuk of the Department of Korean Medicine participated in the volunteer work, providing local residents with various acupuncture and moxibustion treatments, physical therapy, herbal medicine prescriptions, and consultations on Korean medicine knowledge.
Daetbaram set up a clinic at Jeongdong Nonghyup in Jeongdong-myeon, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam, from July 14 to 19, as they did last year. Chimmek conducted their volunteer service in Gampo-eup, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk, from July 15 to 18, and Hwangjidoyeonsuk carried out their activities in Goryu-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, from July 21 to 26.
The Korean medicine volunteer service of the College of Korean Medicine has been held annually since 1991 to instill a sense of duty in future medical professionals and to promote the health of elderly residents in medically underserved areas while enhancing understanding of Korean medicine.
Lee Jongchan (2nd year, Department of Korean Medicine), president of Daetbaram who participated in the volunteer service, shared his thoughts: "Treating about 120 patients a day without rest was physically exhausting, but seeing patients improve day by day and hearing words of gratitude from the elderly made me feel deeply rewarded. I learned and felt so much through this experience, and I hope to continue participating with my juniors in the future."
