Lee Jin-sook, Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission, and Kim Tae-gyu, Standing Commissioner, were appointed on the 31st.

Immediately after President Yoon Seok-yeol's appointment, Chairperson Lee and Standing Commissioner Kim skipped the certificate awarding ceremony and the visit to the National Cemetery, and went straight to the Korea Communications Commission office at the Government Complex Gwacheon. The inauguration ceremony was scheduled for 11 a.m.

When asked about plans to respond to the future appointment of public broadcasting directors and the opposition party's impeachment motion, Chairperson Lee only replied, "There will be an inauguration ceremony shortly, and I will have an opportunity to share the plans then."

With the appointment of Chairperson Lee and Standing Commissioner Kim on that day, the Korea Communications Commission was restored to a two-member system out of the full complement of five members.

Accordingly, the Korea Communications Commission considered that it had the minimum conditions to convene a plenary meeting and planned to hold a full meeting that afternoon to approve the appointment of directors to the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) major shareholder, the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation.

According to the Korea Communications Commission's meeting operation rules, in principle, agenda items for the plenary meeting must be delivered to standing commissioners 48 hours in advance and disclosed on the website 24 hours prior; however, exceptions are allowed in unavoidable and urgent cases, so approval on the day of inauguration is not impossible.

It was also reported that the Korea Communications Commission would approve only the six members recommended by the ruling party out of the nine director positions at the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation that day. This appears to be based on the calculation that the foundation can also hold meetings with just six members.
