Brazilian Athlete Who Left the Village and Visited the Eiffel Tower Finally Returns Home [Paris Olympics]

Brazil Olympic Committee Decides to Expel Athlete
"Violation of Code of Conduct... No Other Option"

A female Brazilian national swimmer who participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics was expelled from the national team after leaving the Olympic Village without permission. The athlete was caught after posting tourist photos on social media (SNS).

According to multiple foreign media reports on the 29th (local time), Ana Carolina Vieira, a member of the Brazilian national swimming team, was caught leaving the Olympic Village with her boyfriend, Gabriel Santos, who is also a member of the Brazilian men's national swimming team. Both were disciplined by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC) and expelled from the Olympic Village.

They left the Olympic Village without the permission of the coaching staff and toured the city of Paris without authorization. It is reported that their unauthorized departure was exposed after they posted related photos on social media (SNS).

Regarding this action, the BOC stated, "In addition to unauthorized departure, Vieira objected to the decisions made by the Brazilian national swimming team committee in a rude and aggressive manner."

However, Santos reportedly only received a warning. The coach of the Brazilian swimming team emphasized, "We all know that we came to work for Brazil, not for vacation or leisure."

The coach explained the decision to expel Vieira, saying, "She acted too hastily regarding technical decisions and violated the code of conduct expected of a national athlete. She lost focus on the most important competition," adding, "There was no other option."

He also added, "I tried to talk to her twice at the swimming pool, and even attempted a third time, but she did not change," and "I don't even want to remember the words Vieira used."

Vieira, who was expelled, was also reportedly involved in conflicts with other teammates during the selection process for the women's 4x100m medley relay lineup. However, after the expulsion decision, she denied the allegations in an interview with local media, stating, "I was bullied within the team. I will formally file a complaint through my lawyer."
