Get Incentives for Practicing Carbon Neutrality!... Launch of 'Geumcheon Green Mileage' Program

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will officially operate the 'Geumcheon Green Mileage,' a program that allows residents, small business owners, and companies to practice carbon neutrality in their daily lives, starting from August 1.

'Geumcheon Green Mileage' is a Geumcheon-style 'Environmental Mileage' system that encourages various carbon neutrality activities in daily life to overcome the climate crisis and provides benefits (incentives) for participation.

Participants include residents, small business owners, and companies located in Geumcheon-gu, who can certify their carbon neutrality achievements through the 'Green Mileage' menu on the Geumcheon-gu Office website.

The practice areas are divided into five categories: participation, resource circulation, energy saving, wise consumption, and environmental protection. The detailed practice items consist of 29 closely related daily life activities such as signing up for eco mileage, separating recyclables, avoiding food waste, using reusable cups (tumblers), using bicycles (public transportation), and purchasing eco-friendly products.

Individuals are required to practice 13 items, small business owners 7 items, and companies and corporations 9 items to accumulate mileage.

Depending on the participation achievements by category, individuals (and small business owners) can accumulate up to 60,000 KRW worth of mileage annually, which is paid out in units of 10,000 KRW as Geumcheon G-Valley Love Gift Certificates.

Companies (corporations) will be selected twice a year (July and December) as outstanding organizations and awarded prize money and certificates. However, the evaluation for companies (corporations) in December 2024 will be reflected in the July 2025 evaluation due to the short participation period, and outstanding organizations will be selected then.

The district has prepared monthly customized events to secure new subscribers and promote participation. Participants can earn additional mileage according to the event details.

Events include turning off lights for 10 minutes in celebration of Energy Day (August), donating unused items in celebration of Resource Circulation Day (September), and the Ssedam Running (plogging) event (October).

Meanwhile, the district is conducting a 'Carbon Neutrality Practice Campaign' to encourage employees to practice carbon neutrality, designating 'Carbon Zero Keepers' to calculate greenhouse gas reduction amounts and manage performance, striving to create a carbon-neutral office building.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "Through Geumcheon Green Mileage, which consists of items that can be easily practiced in daily life, I hope that a culture of carbon neutrality practice will spread throughout the region through the voluntary participation of residents, small business owners, and companies."
