Changwon Special City Appoints Lee Junghwan, Former President of Korea Institute of Materials Science, as President of Changwon Industry Promotion Agency

Management Skills and R&D Project Experience Recognized Through Leadership of National Research Institutes

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam appointed Lee Junghwan, former president of the Korea Institute of Materials Science, as the new president of the Changwon Industry Promotion Agency on the 29th.

The new president, Lee, was finally selected through a public recruitment process in June, followed by a board meeting and a personnel hearing by the Changwon City Council. Lee, who holds a Ph.D. in metal processing, worked at the Korea Institute of Materials Science for 42 years and made significant contributions to the development of the materials sector in Korea.


In particular, during his tenure as the head of the institution, he was recognized for his management skills by elevating the Materials Research Institute to the Korea Institute of Materials Science.


Hong Nam-pyo, mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "The Changwon Industry Promotion Agency will mark its 10th anniversary next year, and it needs a differentiated development strategy compared to the past. I hope the agency will play an even greater role in the development of the local industry by leveraging President Lee's experience in government agency projects and various R&D initiatives as the head of a national research institute."


President Lee is scheduled to hold an inauguration ceremony on August 1 and begin his term as president of the agency with a communication meeting with companies in Changwon.
