Chungnam Province will invest 210 billion KRW to restore the five cities and counties declared as special disaster areas.
According to Chungnam Province on the 29th, more than 400mm of torrential rain recently hit the region, leading to the declaration of Nonsan City, Seocheon County, Geumsan County, Buyeo County, and Jusang-myeon and Misan-myeon in Boryeong City as special disaster areas.
The damages in these five cities and counties due to the heavy rain have been tallied at 145.2 billion KRW. The Wangamcheon in Nonsan, Yudeungcheon in Geumsan, and Gugyo Reservoir in Buyeo have collapsed, and 519 hectares of farmland and 1,271 hectares of crops have been affected.
Seven households had their homes destroyed, and 67 households suffered partial destruction. A total of 1,264 households were affected, with 1,190 households experiencing flooding.
The province will combine provincial and municipal funds to invest a total of 219.3 billion KRW for restoration work in the special disaster areas.
For roads and rivers, 15.7 billion KRW has been invested, and most emergency repairs have been completed.
For housing damages, the province plans to fully cover the damage costs, providing additional support on top of the government’s assistance. Additionally, support will be provided for electronic appliances, temporary modular housing, and public rental housing.
For the 957 businesses affected by flooding, a disaster relief fund of 3 million KRW will be provided, along with an additional 2 million KRW from the provincial disaster relief fund.
For heavily damaged agricultural facilities and crops, the province plans to supplement government support to cover as much of the actual damage as possible. For agricultural losses not covered by insurance, the province will provide support.
For uninsured farms, support will be provided at 40% of the level given to insured farms, as a penalty.
Governor Kim Taeheum stated, "Although Dangjin City also suffered damage such as traditional markets being flooded, the efforts of public officials and citizens allowed the water to recede quickly, so the scale of damage was not significant. We will provide support tailored to the flooded areas."
He added, "Since flood damage has occurred for three consecutive years even before restoration is fully complete, we have requested the government to ensure that recovery is completed within the year. We also requested that drainage pumps managed by the Korea Rural Community Corporation be transferred to local governments, as they have not been properly managed."
