Web Drama Produced in Dalseo-gu, Daegu Surpasses 1.37 Million Views and Airs on Japanese OTT Channel

10-Minute Video Set in Dalseo-gu Explores Student Concerns and Friendship

Daegu Dalseo-gu (District Mayor Lee Taehun) announced on the 29th that the original web drama "I Hate School but Want to Go on a School Trip," produced last May, has surpassed a total of 1.37 million views and is scheduled to be aired on a Japanese OTT channel.

This web drama is a short video content of about 10 minutes, tailored to the consumption patterns of the MZ generation. Set in Dalseo-gu, a representative school trip destination in the Gyeongsang region, it humorously depicts the honest concerns and stories of friendship among students.

Daegu Dalseo-gu collaborated with Whynot Media to produce the web drama, which was aired on the "KokTV" channel (with a total of 3.94 million subscribers) on May 2 at 6 p.m. The total number of views reached 1.37 million (main episode - YouTube 395,000/95,000, SNS promotions and short-form videos - 880,000), showcasing a remarkable presence among self-promotional web dramas produced by local governments. Since 2022, Dalseo-gu has been producing its own web dramas, with "A Day of Dalpeu" (2022) reaching 500,000 total views and "Happen Wedding" (2023) reaching 2.33 million total views, serving as good examples of promotion through web content production.

To beautifully showcase its tourist resources, Daegu Dalseo-gu featured actual school trip destinations such as E-World, as well as other famous spots that capture the spring atmosphere of Dalseo-gu, including Daemyeong Yusuji, the protected trees of Subatgol in Dowon-dong, Wolgok History Park, Baesil Wedding Park, and the Arboretum.

Riding on the popularity of this year's web drama, Dalseo-gu is striving to promote its beautiful tourist resources beyond Korea by distributing the drama through Japanese OTT channels (scheduled for the second half of 2024), laying the foundation for establishing Dalseo-gu's city brand as a tourist destination.

Lee Taehun, Mayor of Daegu Dalseo-gu, said, "In line with the changing times, we have produced three original web dramas up to this year to diversify tourism promotion and have achieved high view counts. Moving forward, we plan to continue making changes by utilizing web variety shows and individual creators in the right places, so that we can contribute to revitalizing the local economy by directly attracting new tourists, rather than limiting ourselves to simple promotion."
