Simultaneously Open Pre-Orders for Gift Sets
Increased Stock of Cost-Effective Products Compared to Last Year
With the Chuseok holiday about a month and a half away, major large-scale marts and e-commerce platforms have begun pre-orders for gift sets. Considering the ongoing high inflation and weakened consumer sentiment, the retail industry has focused this year's Chuseok gift sets on 'cost-effectiveness' (performance relative to price) and discounts.
According to the retail industry on the 29th, Emart will conduct pre-orders for Chuseok gift sets from next month 2nd to September 6th. Emart has developed and introduced fruit and seafood exclusive gift sets with cost-effectiveness in mind for this pre-order period.
First, for fruit gift sets, they developed affordable pre-order exclusive products and increased the number of 40% discount sets from one last year to five this year. In particular, the price of apple gift sets was set about 10% lower on average compared to last Chuseok. Emart explained that the apple harvest this year was better than last year, allowing them to increase the quantity by about 10-20%.
Emart offers representative fruit gift set products such as ▲Apple VIP (3.6kg, 11-13 pieces) at a 30% discount for 43,400 KRW ▲Sugar-selected pears (5kg, 8-9 pieces) at a 40% discount for 35,940 KRW ▲Apple & Pear VIP (8 apples, 4 pears) at a 30% discount for 55,300 KRW.
Processed food and daily necessities gift sets also emphasize cost-effectiveness. The quantity of seasoning and canned food gift sets priced in the 30,000 to 40,000 KRW range was increased by 20% compared to Chuseok, and popular daily necessities sets such as 'LG Himalaya Pink Salt No. 41 (29,330 KRW)' and 'Ryeo Jingyeolmo 5-item planning set (27,930 KRW)' have maintained their prices for three consecutive years.
Meanwhile, during the pre-order period, Emart offers up to 50% discount per product when purchasing gift sets with event cards, and Shinsegae gift certificates worth up to 1.2 million KRW depending on the purchase amount. The warehouse discount mart Traders also offers up to 50% discount on various gift sets with Shinsegae points accumulation from next month 2nd until Chuseok day.
Lotte Mart will conduct pre-orders for Chuseok gift sets from next month 1st to September 6th. Lotte Mart also expanded the lineup of cost-effective gift sets due to the economic downturn and sluggish consumption.
First, they introduce ultra cost-effective products priced under 10,000 KRW. These include ▲Yangban perilla oil seaweed set (9,900 KRW) ▲Nokchawon Chadam & Four Seasons best tea sets (each 9,900 KRW) ▲Nutsbox daily nuts 20 packs (9,950 KRW each when purchasing two or more). The number of fruit gift set items under 30,000 KRW increased by more than 30% compared to last Chuseok, and the quantity was expanded by about 20%. The quantity of cost-effective livestock gift sets under 100,000 KRW also increased by about 40%. In particular, they newly launched about 10 practical gift sets such as seasoned meat seasoning steak assortment sets made with popular cuts of U.S. beef and Canadian pork gift sets, expanding the choices of cost-effective products.
Lotte Mart and Lotte Super provide discount benefits such as up to 50% off on some products during the pre-order period, special discounts for L.Point members, and free gifts depending on purchase quantity. Additionally, customers who pay with event cards receive Lotte gift certificates worth up to 1.2 million KRW depending on the purchase amount and payment timing, and can also choose immediate discounts instead of receiving gift certificates. Free nationwide delivery service is provided for purchases over 30,000 KRW.

Earlier, Homeplus started pre-orders the fastest among large marts from last month 25th. Homeplus is conducting the '2024 Chuseok Gift Set Pre-order' until next month 6th, offering about 800 types of gift sets at up to half price during this event.
First, major gift sets paid with event cards receive up to 50% discount, and customers can get gift certificates worth up to 6 million KRW or immediate discounts depending on the purchase amount. Additionally, interest-free benefits are provided for purchases over 50,000 KRW with event cards, and free delivery is offered for purchases over 30,000 KRW. An additional 10% discount coupon is given for online pre-orders over 100,000 KRW.
Homeplus also composed 68% of all gift sets sold during this Chuseok pre-order period as practical sets priced under 30,000 KRW. Considering the ongoing high inflation, the quantity of products in this price range was increased by about 20% compared to last Chuseok. Meanwhile, the e-commerce industry is also operating pre-order periods for Chuseok gift sets and offering discount benefits. SSG.com, an e-commerce affiliate of Shinsegae Group, will conduct pre-orders for Chuseok gift sets from next month 2nd to September 6th. When purchasing gift sets on Emart Mall through SSG.com, the same benefits as Emart are provided. Major benefits include ▲N+1 free gift ▲up to 50% discount when paying with event cards ▲gift certificates worth up to 1.2 million KRW depending on purchase amount. Among these, the gift certificate benefit can also be applied as an immediate discount when purchasing on SSG.com. As an online exclusive benefit, customers who purchase over 2 million KRW with event cards earn 1% of the payment amount as SSG Money, and those who purchase over 3 million KRW earn 2% as SSG Money.
