On the same day, Moon made these remarks during a visit from Park Chan-dae, the acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, at his private residence in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, according to a written briefing by Yoon Jong-gun, the party's floor spokesperson.
At the meeting, Moon said, "Recently, many unprecedented things have been happening," and added, "The government and ruling party should have learned the lesson that a major shift in state affairs is necessary through the general election, but it is very regrettable that they are not doing so."
He also stated, "The role of the Democratic Party becomes more important as the government and ruling party act this way," and urged, "Although we had an advantage in policies and candidates during the last presidential election, we narrowly lost by 0.7 percentage points. I hope we take this as a lesson and make expansion our top priority."
He continued, "The increase in vote share in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions in the last general election is very meaningful," and encouraged, "Since the playing field is no longer tilted, sincere efforts will be rewarded with corresponding results."
He added, "Please convey my regards to former leader Lee Jae-myung and the party members in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam."
In response, Acting Leader Park said, "We will uphold the will of the people who gave the opposition an overwhelming majority for the first time in constitutional history and carry out our duties 'steadily' as a reform task force."
