Hwaseong City Accelerates Railway Network Expansion... Dongtan-Indeogwon Line Section 11 Also Begins Construction

Opening in 2029... Dongtan Station~Yongin~Suwon~Uiwang~Indeogwon Station Connected Within 40 Minutes
Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun "GTX is Just the Beginning... We Will Complete the Railway Revolution"

Construction of the Hwaseong Neungdong and Bansong-dong sections of the Dongtan-Indeokwon Line, connecting Dongtan Station in Hwaseong and Indeokwon Station in Anyang, has officially begun. Once the Dongtan-Indeokwon Line opens, it will be possible to travel between the two areas in 40 minutes, improving rail accessibility for residents of Dongtan 1 and 2 districts.

Hwaseong City announced on the 27th that Section 11, which includes the Neungdong and Bansong-dong areas of the double-track Dongtan-Indeokwon Line, recently commenced actual construction. Section 11 includes Neungdong Station (tentative name), for which the city has actively requested the installation of a station.

The Dongtan-Indeokwon Line is a 39 km railway connecting Dongtan Station on the GTX (Great Train Express) Line A in the metropolitan area, passing through Yongin, Suwon, and Uiwang, to Indeokwon Station in Anyang. The line will have 17 stations, and once it opens in 2029, travel between the two areas will take 40 minutes.

Originally, this railway was scheduled for completion in 2026 but was delayed due to increased project costs. In February last year, the city, along with Gyeonggi Province and the cities of Suwon, Yongin, Anyang, and Uiwang, submitted a joint petition to the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport urging early commencement of construction.

Hwaseong City, which is set to become a special city next year, has been evaluated as having relatively insufficient railway networks compared to roads. However, since the opening of GTX-A Dongtan Station in March, it has become possible to reach Suseo Station in 20 minutes, greatly improving access to Seoul’s Gangnam area. Railway networks are also being established in the western part of Hwaseong, which previously lacked rail service, with the Shinansan Line extension to Hyangnam opening sequentially.

Currently, the city is promoting eight railway projects, including the Seohae Line, Shinansan Line, and Dongtan-Indeokwon Line. The city has especially requested that four lines, including the Gyeonggi Southern East-West Line (also known as the Semiconductor Line), be included in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s '5th National Railway Network Construction Plan.'

Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "Through the railway revolution with GTX, Dongin Line, Seohae Line, Shinansan Line, Dongtan Tram, and the Gyeonggi Southern East-West Line, we will complete 'Hwaseong, a premium city where everyone wants to live.'"
