Buan Coast Guard Rescues 30s Drifting in Swell Waves

Identifying Drifters' Locations via Video Calls and Military Unit Thermal Cameras

At around 3:15 PM on the 26th, a man in his 30s, identified as A, who was drifting at sea in front of Gushipo Beach in Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, was rescued by the Coast Guard.


According to Buan Coast Guard, at approximately 2:54 PM that day, a report was received that someone was drifting with the current while riding a tube in front of the beach. The coastal rescue boat from Gochang Police Station was dispatched, and the Coast Guard directly entered the water to safely rescue A.

At the time, A reportedly used his mobile phone to call 119. After being rescued, A showed symptoms of hypothermia and exhaustion and was handed over to 119 for medical assistance.


During the accident, the wind at sea was blowing strongly at 10 to 12 meters per second, and swell waves were rising as high as 1 to 2 meters.


The Coast Guard stated, "It was difficult to pinpoint A's location at sea, but through a video call with A and cooperation with a nearby military unit's thermal imaging camera, we quickly identified the location and carried out the rescue."
