Driver in 60s "Vehicle suddenly accelerated while reversing"
A mother and daughter traveling in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, were involved in an accident where the daughter died and the mother was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle that suddenly reversed while they were walking.
According to the police and fire authorities on the 26th, at around 6:13 PM on the 24th, a K8 passenger car driven by Mr. A (61) struck pedestrians while reversing on a road near Yeonggeumjeong in Sokcho City, Gangwon Province.
The K8 car, which had stopped by the roadside after dropping off companions, suddenly reversed at high speed and hit pedestrian Mr. B (68) and his daughter Ms. C (43) who were passing nearby. Ms. C was taken to the hospital but died that night, and Mr. B was also seriously injured and is receiving treatment.
Mr. A stated during the police investigation that "the vehicle suddenly accelerated while reversing." It was confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The police have requested the National Forensic Service to analyze the vehicle's Event Data Recorder (EDR). Additionally, Mr. A will be booked and investigated on charges of causing death and injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling.
