Cheonan City in Chungnam recommends Taehaksan Healing Forest, Taejosan Barrier-Free Sharing Trail and Forest Leisure Sports Complex, Children's Outdoor Water Playground, and Hong Daeyong Science Museum as summer vacation destinations.
Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest, one of Cheonan's most popular relaxation spots, has recently been reborn through a large-scale remodeling.
Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest was established in 2001 on the slopes of Mount Taehaksan at an elevation of 455 meters. As the only natural recreation forest in the area, it has been much loved. Since 2021, with the addition of 11 new Forest Houses, expansion of the camping site, opening of the Forest Recreation Center, and widening of the access road, convenience facilities have continued to be improved. It was also selected for the '2024 Daejeon-Chungnam Small-Scale Potential Tourist Destination Discovery and Development Project' organized by Korea Tourism Organization's Daejeon-Chungnam branch.
Located just 20 minutes from downtown Cheonan, the forest offers a variety of healing programs, including the Cheonan Samtaeri Rock-Carved Standing Buddha (Treasure No. 407), which clearly showcases Buddhist sculpture from the Goryeo Dynasty, children's playgrounds, a forest for infants, auto camping site, forest healing center, picnic area, and Forest Houses for accommodation.
In particular, the Healing Forest is gaining popularity as a healing tourism program that combines ecology and recreation. Taehaksan offers peace of mind and relaxation with its beautiful natural scenery and customized experiential programs for different groups.
The Taejosan Barrier-Free Sharing Trail and Forest Leisure Sports Complex, located in Yuryang-dong, Dongnam-gu, also offer a chance to escape daily life and enjoy healing and relaxation.
The barrier-free sharing trail, with a gentle slope of less than 8%, allows everyone?including wheelchair users, children, and the elderly?to enjoy the benefits of the forest.
The Forest Leisure Sports Complex, the first in Chungnam to combine forest and leisure sports, features a curved gliding sports facility with a height of 6 to 14 meters and a length of 510 meters. It is equipped with three types of aerial net sports courses, forest adventure facilities for adults and teenagers, and forest adventure facilities for children.
At the Hong Daeyong Science Museum, you can observe countless stars in the night sky.
The science museum is preparing an event for families to observe meteor showers during the summer vacation period, and is operating the 'Starlight Charging Station Mobile Observatory in the City' at Sinbang Central Park and the Cheonan Sangnok Resort lawn field.
Through this event, visitors can enjoy nighttime astronomical observations of the moon, star clusters, and double stars, as well as the '2024 Perseids Meteor Shower Public Observation Event,' creating unforgettable midsummer night memories.
Water playgrounds to beat the heat have also opened. Until August 18, children's outdoor water playgrounds will operate at the Oryunmun Plaza of the Sports Complex and Dosol Plaza.
The outdoor water playgrounds are equipped with large slides, air bounces, lazy rivers, and additional facilities such as pavilion zones and table zones, making them a must-visit for families with children.
You can also experience Cheonan, which is emerging as Korea's top 'city of bread.'
Cheonan, the birthplace of Hodugwaja, boasts 67 Hodugwaja shops and over 350 bakeries with advanced baking skills, each with its own unique character. Visitors can taste bread made with local agricultural products and participate in hands-on baking programs for a variety of experiences.
Other recommended summer vacation spots include Gwangdeok Valley, Gwangdeoksa Temple, Cheonan Bukmyeon Valley Campground, Cheonan National Leisure Camping Site, Gagwonsa Temple, Cheonan General Recreation and Tourism Site, Cheonan Sangnok Resort, Independence Hall of Korea, Arario Gallery, Yu Gwansun Memorial Site, and Lee Dongnyeong Memorial Hall.
