Hong Jun-pyo on Han Dong-hoon's Election: "I Will Not Participate in Party Affairs for the Time Being"
After Han Dong-hoon was elected as the leader of the People Power Party, Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who declared that he would not interfere in party affairs, said on the 25th, "I always run on a straight track."
On the 25th, Mayor Hong said through his Facebook, "I do not run on a curved track," expressing this sentiment. He added, "I do not hide my emotions. I go straight as I am." He continued, "I do not engage in hypocritical actions or words. I always speak and act sincerely," emphasizing his point.
Mayor Hong said, "I have lived like this and have been in public service for over 40 years," and questioned, "People around me have told me countless times to fix that, but if I fix it, what would I have left?" Finally, he added, "I have served in public office for over 40 years with this approach, and even living like this, I have done enough in South Korea."
Earlier, after Han was overwhelmingly victorious with more than half the votes in the People Power Party leadership election, Mayor Hong expressed disappointment and stated his intention to focus solely on Daegu city administration for the time being.
On the 23rd, he said through his Facebook, "I will not interfere in party affairs for the time being," adding, "If that is the choice of the party members, it cannot be helped, but I am disappointed." He continued, "Who would want to protect this party and do politics here for a long time? Being swept away by opportunists happens once or twice, but I hope we unite and overcome this crisis well."

Mayor Hong also referred to Han’s election as the "Second In the Mood for Love." He said this in response to a supporter’s post on the online communication platform 'Youth’s Dream,' titled "I cannot accept the birth of leader Han Dong-hoon."
The supporter, in a post titled "I feel like I’m going to die from anger," expressed rage, saying, "I don’t know what kind of chaotic mess this is. I am furious inside and feel like my lungs are turning inside out." They continued, "The party leader is a problem, but if we lose the presidential election as well, Daegu will be slaughtered," adding, "Even the traditions that remain in this party are being dragged into old-fashioned ways and cut off, which seems to be the start of his Second In the Mood for Love. Use any means to stop it. Please show us sooner that we were right." Mayor Hong agreed with the supporter’s words, replying, "Second In the Mood for Love."
