The Heart Saver award is given to firefighters or civilians who revive cardiac arrest patients using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or defibrillators. The recipients this time were Kim Dong-hyun (21) and Go Min-jung (47).
The awardees performed CPR after a family member collapsed and before the arrival of the paramedics following a 119 emergency call. The paramedics who took over successfully revived the patient and transported them to a nearby hospital.
Chief Yang Young-seok said, "It was the initial CPR that made it possible to save the precious life of the patient," and added, "We will further strengthen emergency treatment education for civilians."
