Business Agreement for Creating a 'Future-Oriented Complex Satellite City' in the Idong Public Housing District
On the 25th, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that it signed a "Joint Business Agreement for the Creation of a Future-Oriented Complex Hinterland City for the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster" with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) at the city hall video conference room.
This agreement aims to develop the Ildong Public Housing District in Ildong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City, into a cutting-edge high-tech new city with the function of a semiconductor belt hinterland city. Previously, the government announced plans in November last year to develop a semiconductor belt hinterland new city with 16,000 households on a 2.28 million square meter site in this area.

The Ildong District is located on 7.28 million square meters in the Ildong and Namsa-eup areas near the Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex. Once the industrial complex is established, it is expected to serve as a residential hinterland city for the workers who will reside there. Additionally, it is expected to function as a residential space for workers from nearby industrial complexes such as Wonsam-myeon Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and the 1st and 2nd Yongin Technovalley.
The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, Lee Han-jun, President of LH, and other officials from Yongin City and LH. According to the agreement, the city and LH will cooperate to develop the Ildong District into a future-oriented complex hinterland city equipped with residential, cultural, and living infrastructure. In particular, the plan is to develop it as a high-tech city applying advanced smart city technologies to reflect the district’s characteristics as a system semiconductor industrial complex hinterland city.
The city and LH agreed to promptly advance the project in connection with the establishment of the national industrial complex and to cooperate to ensure smooth progress in related planning, compensation, and construction.
Mayor Lee said, "We will work closely with LH to proceed with the new city development plan without any setbacks," and added, "Let us work together so that the semiconductor-specialized new city is loved by citizens and becomes a new model case for urban development."
President Lee also said, "I hope Yongin City and LH will coexist and develop like gums fitting together," and added, "We will do our best to align with Yongin City’s administration and contribute to the city’s development."
