Samsung SmartThings Obtains International Standard Certification for 'Information Security Management System'

Compliance with a Total of 123 Criteria Including Information Security Policies

Samsung Electronics SmartThings announced on the 26th that it has obtained the international standard certification for information security management systems (ISO·IEC 27001:2022) from the British Standards Institution (BSI).


ISO 27001 is the most authoritative standard in the field of information security established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Its purpose is to systematically manage risks to information assets and establish overall processes to achieve information security objectives. It requires meeting criteria for a total of 123 detailed items, ranging from policies for information security, access and control of information assets, to incident response and improvement.

Samsung Electronics explained that with this certification, it has proven that the information security management system of the 'SmartThings Cloud,' which provides an integrated connected experience, is operated in accordance with international standards. They also stated that, as an opportunity to officially recognize their service operation capabilities and technical level, they expect to secure greater trust not only from SmartThings users but also from partners, thereby strengthening business competitiveness.


Harold Pradal, Head of Certification Services at the British Standards Institution, said, "In a rapidly changing business environment, the importance of cloud technology and information security is increasing," and added, "Through this audit, we confirmed that Samsung Electronics' SmartThings platform operation capability and security level are excellent."


Seungbeom Choi, Vice President of the Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, emphasized, "In a hyper-connected and hyper-intelligent environment, customers' personal information must be protected as a top priority," and stated, "We will continue to strive to ensure that various personalized services are safely provided through SmartThings."
