Held Communication Meeting with Parents of 27 Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
Supporting Education Expenses of 2 Billion Won to Improve Educational Conditions through Listening to School Issues
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) operated the ‘Gwanak Office Visiting Schools’ program again this year to listen to the diverse and vivid voices from school sites, providing time for communication with parents and school officials.
The district has made resident communication and cooperative governance the core values of the 8th elected administration and operates various online and offline communication spaces. In the first half of this year, it visited 27 elementary, middle, and high schools.
The ‘Gwanak Office Visiting Schools’ program, where the district mayor personally visits local schools to meet with school officials and parents, listens directly to current issues at schools and in the community on-site, and seeks solutions, has been ongoing for four years since 2021.
Thanks to strong support from parents, up to last year, the program covered a total of 85 schools?26 elementary, 30 middle, and 29 high schools?addressing 596 suggestions and daily complaints, and supported school environment improvement projects with a total of 7.3 billion KRW in educational expenses.
In the first half of this year, starting with Gwangshin High School in April and continuing until July, the program visited a total of 27 schools?10 elementary, 8 middle, and 9 high schools?listening to parents’ broad and diverse opinions and difficulties for improving educational conditions and student development.
As a result, the program met with about 320 parents and addressed a total of 195 suggestions. After review and resolution by the Educational Expense Subsidy Deliberation Committee, 2 billion KRW in educational expenses were supported for 27 school environment improvement projects aimed at enhancing educational conditions.
Among the 195 suggestions, 91 (46%) were related to educational expenses, followed by 32 (16%) in education and culture, 27 (13%) in construction and transportation, and 17 (8%) in civil engineering and water management.
Major educational expense support included ▲ establishment of outdoor learning spaces ▲ improvement of stadium stands ▲ renovation of old corridor floors ▲ improvement of cafeteria environment ▲ installation of safety fences for outdoor sports facilities ▲ renovation of old restrooms ▲ and establishment of career activity rooms.
In addition to school-related matters, lifestyle-related suggestions were also addressed, such as ▲ repair of walking paths on school routes ▲ installation of speed warning devices in school zones ▲ conducting traffic safety campaigns on school routes ▲ and construction of dangerous retaining walls in apartment complexes.
The ‘Gwanak Office Visiting Schools’ program will continue in the second half of the year, visiting five schools including Guam Elementary School from September to October.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “We will listen carefully to the voices from school sites to strive for creating a safe and happy educational environment for our children,” adding, “We will continue to create opportunities to communicate with parents to hear vivid and diverse opinions from the education field.”
