Silla University Department of Library and Information Science Conducts Level 1 Teacher Certification Training and School Librarian Course

Ulsan Office of Education Commissions Program for 96 School Librarians Nationwide

The Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University (President: Heo Namsik) announced on the 25th that it is conducting the '2024 First-Class Regular Teacher Qualification Training (Librarian Teacher Course)'.


The Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University and the Education Training Institute, commissioned by the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education, began the training on the 22nd for 96 librarian teachers from nine education offices nationwide, including Seoul.


This program, which consists of a total of 100 hours over three weeks, includes offline training sessions in the first and third weeks led by an excellent faculty of current librarian teachers and university professors, and an online session in the second week utilizing the LMS system, combining one-way remote content and interactive real-time education methods.


The training curriculum is designed to be immediately applicable in educational settings, with the aim of establishing the competencies of librarian teachers to proactively respond to new directions in education and future education based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The curriculum includes: ▲Understanding policies and laws related to school libraries ▲Innovation in school library spaces ▲Career exploration and reading education ▲School libraries and multi-literacy ▲Practical application of school libraries using literacy tools ▲Practical reading discussion classes ▲AI and school libraries ▲Understanding changes in future society and educational trends ▲Reading games using artificial intelligence programs ▲Operation of school libraries utilizing edutech, among others.


Park Sujin, a librarian teacher at Busanjin High School who participated in the training, expressed her expectations for the program, saying, "Through lectures focused on a variety of the latest theories and practical cases related to school libraries, I believe this will be a great opportunity to explore practical application methods in the field and expand my expertise."


Cha Sungjong, head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University, emphasized, "Based on the know-how and experience of Silla University's Department of Library and Information Science in training librarian teachers, we have designed a differentiated first-class regular teacher training course that meets the needs of the field."


Lee Eunhwa, director of the Education Training Institute, also expressed her support, saying, "I hope this training will be a time to establish teachers' expertise as practical professionals."
