Chungnam has reclaimed its position as the nation's top region in trade surplus, recording a surplus of $23.13 billion in the first half of this year.
According to Chungnam Province on the 25th, local companies exported $43.814 billion worth of goods in the first half, ranking third nationwide after Gyeonggi and Ulsan. This figure marks a 14.6% increase compared to $32.839 billion during the same period last year. In particular, last month's exports reached $8.454 billion, the highest since October 2022.
Imports amounted to $20.711 billion, down 4.3% from the previous year, which is attributed to the stabilization of raw material prices leading to a decrease in import value.
As a result, the trade surplus stood at $23.13 billion, the largest in the country.
Chungnam, which maintained the top spot in national trade surplus from 2015 to 2022, faced challenges last year due to a boom in automobile exports but has now regained its leading position.
An official from the province stated, "Given the upward trend in exports, we expect strong results in the second half as well. The export gap with Ulsan is only $996 million, and with June's exports hitting a record high, expectations are rising for Chungnam to reclaim the second spot in national exports this year."
