Sunchon National University to Launch Overseas Volunteer Service in Mongolia

20 Overseas Volunteers to Engage in Educational Service and Environmental Improvement Near Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from July 29 to August 8

Suncheon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced on the 25th that an overseas volunteer group composed of enrolled students and faculty members will carry out volunteer activities in Mongolia during the summer vacation.


At the '2024 Academic Year Mongolia Overseas Volunteer Group Launch Ceremony' held at the university headquarters on the 23rd, about 30 people attended, including Lee Byung-woon, President of Suncheon National University, Jeong Jeong-jo, Dean of Student Affairs, representatives from the NGO 'WECA,' and university student volunteers.

The launch ceremony proceeded with an introduction of the overseas volunteer group by the Dean of Student Affairs, followed by the oath-taking of the volunteer members and presentations of their activity plans.


This overseas volunteer group consists of 24 members in total?20 students and 4 faculty members?and will conduct volunteer activities near Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from the 29th of this month to the 8th of next month.


The Suncheon National University overseas volunteer group, in collaboration with the NGO 'WECA,' plans to provide educational volunteer services in Korean language, science, arts and physical education, and hygiene to youth at Mongolia’s 118th School, Khumjung Comprehensive High School, University of Finance and Economics, and National University of Education, as well as engage in environmental improvement efforts such as mural painting.


So far, the Suncheon National University overseas volunteer group has enhanced the university’s reputation worldwide through local environmental improvements and talent donations in countries such as Tanzania, Nepal, Laos, Kyrgyzstan, and Indonesia.


Kim Chae-won, the volunteer group leader and a third-year student in the Department of Computer Engineering, said, "I will broaden my perspective through volunteer activities in a new cultural environment and strive to become a person who positively influences the world with a sense of social responsibility through this experience."


Lee Byung-woon, President of Suncheon National University, stated, “I hope you will personally practice the value of sharing through volunteer activities and fulfill your responsibilities as global citizens,” adding, “Please make efforts to raise the status of our glocal university along with gaining valuable experiences of learning local culture and making new friends.”
