Seongdong-gu Builds Fine Dust Map Using AI New Technologies

Completion of Fine Dust Map Using AI Technology Based on CCTV Video Data, Priority Implementation at Dong Community Center Locations from August... Real-Time Fine Dust Concentration Monitoring, Route Selection Assistance When Going Out, Focused Management of High-Concentration Fine Dust Areas

Seongdong-gu Builds Fine Dust Map Using AI New Technologies

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it has completed the establishment of a fine dust map using artificial intelligence (AI) video analysis technology, the first of its kind among local governments in Korea.

Seongdong-gu has only one urban air monitoring station operated by Seoul City, which limited the ability to provide real-time localized fine dust information throughout the district. As a result, the district sought ways to provide residents with detailed and accurate fine dust information by specific areas and established an AI fine dust map.

The fine dust map is based on video data obtained from security cameras (CCTV) installed throughout Seongdong-gu. By applying new AI video analysis technology, it measures the concentration of fine dust in the video data and displays it on the map in real time. Utilizing existing security cameras without significant additional budget investment improves residents' daily lives efficiently.

The service will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, AI video analysis technology will be applied to locations around all 17 community service centers. The fine dust map reflecting the measured concentrations by district will be displayed in real time on the Seongdong-gu Office website. In the next phase, the measurement points will be expanded to increase the accuracy of the fine dust concentration measurements. The fine dust map will be accessible from August through a linked webpage on the Seongdong-gu website.

The fine dust map is designed to use highly visible colors according to the concentration levels, making it easy for residents to understand at a glance. Residents will be able to check fine dust concentrations in real time and choose routes with lower fine dust levels when going out.

Additionally, by using the fine dust map to focus on managing areas with high concentrations of fine dust, it is expected to have a significant effect on creating a healthy urban environment for residents.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "Through the establishment of the fine dust map, we can now provide residents with essential fine dust information accurately and in real time. We will continue to utilize various new technologies to create a pleasant urban environment where all residents can enjoy a healthy life."
