US Sanctions 5 Chinese Companies Supporting North Korea's Missile and Military Satellite Development

6 Chinese Nationals Also Subject to New Sanctions

The U.S. government announced new sanctions against five Chinese companies and six Chinese individuals who supported North Korea's ballistic missile and military satellite development.


On the 24th (local time), the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated five Chinese companies?Jinghua Zhidi Electronic Technology, Beijing Sansunda Electronic Science and Technology, Chidong Hengcheng Electronic Factory, Shenzhen Mingwei Electric, and Yidatong Tianjin Metal Materials?as sanctions targets for their involvement in procuring items related to North Korea's ballistic missile and space programs. Six Chinese individuals, including Chen Tianxin, were also included in the sanctions list.


The Treasury Department stated, "This action reaffirms that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions related to North Korea remain fully in effect," and emphasized that "it underscores the United States' determination to respond to sanctions evasion and strengthen efforts to enforce sanctions."


Being designated under U.S. sanctions prohibits U.S. persons from engaging in transactions with these companies and individuals. Any assets of the sanctioned entities within the United States will be frozen. Sanctioned individuals are also barred from traveling to the United States.
