2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo... Ministry of Economy and Finance Grants Final Approval for International Event

Decision by the International Association of Horticultural Producers in September

The "2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo" received its final approval as an international event at the 140th International Event Review Committee hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 24th.

With this approval, national funding is now available for the total project cost of the expo, giving momentum to the event's preparations.

The "2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo" was selected as a target project for the 2024 international event review at the International Event Review Committee of the Ministry of Economy and Finance held on February 29.

Since then, from April, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), a specialized agency designated by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, conducted a policy evaluation, and the final decision was made after deliberation by the International Event Review Committee on this day.

With the completion of domestic approval procedures, if the event receives approval to host the international garden expo at the General Assembly of the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) to be held in Warsaw, Poland, on September 4, all procedures for hosting the expo will be completed.

If Ulsan is selected as the host city, the expo is scheduled to be held for six months from April to October 2028 in the area of Taehwagang National Garden.

The city of Ulsan plans to transform Taehwagang National Garden, Korea's first riverside ecological garden, and an abandoned landfill in the city center into a garden expo site with various themed gardens.

Through this expo, Ulsan expects to generate 3.1544 trillion won in production inducement, 1.5916 trillion won in added value, and create 25,017 jobs, thereby revitalizing the local economy.

Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, stated, "Today, we have received government approval to host the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo," and added, "We are now awaiting final approval from the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) in September, and we will prepare thoroughly to ensure we secure the event."

The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), the approval organization for international garden expos, is a United Nations (UN) registered corporation established in 1948 and is responsible for overseeing and approving international garden expos.
