Uljin County, North Gyeongsang Province, has designated the period until the 31st as a focused promotion period for monitoring violations of parking in spaces reserved for people with disabilities. The county will hang banners primarily in areas with a high number of violations and reports to promote the establishment of proper parking culture.
As for fines for violations of parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities, there were 166 cases in 2021, 188 cases in 2022, 312 cases in 2023, and 191 cases as of June 2024. Reporting has been increasing significantly each year as it is easy to report violations using a smartphone (Safety Report App).
Parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities can only be used by vehicles with a properly issued parking permit. If a general vehicle parks in these spaces, a fine of 100,000 KRW is imposed for parking violations, 500,000 KRW for obstructing the parking space, and up to 2,000,000 KRW for transferring, forging, renting, or misusing the parking permit.
Additionally, vehicles that have been issued a parking permit but fail to display it are also subject to fines.
County Governor Son Byeongbok said, "Through promoting the prevention of parking violations, we will strive to raise awareness and improve mature parking culture regarding spaces reserved for people with disabilities, and we ask for the active participation and cooperation of our residents."
