Finding Unsung Heroes of Community Service and Dedication
Thanking and Presenting Plaques to Four Residents on the 23rd
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) presented plaques of appreciation to four unsung heroes of our neighborhood on the 23rd.
‘Unsung Heroes of Our Neighborhood’ is an event held to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the 8th local government administration, recognizing residents who have quietly served and dedicated themselves to the community. Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, personally visited the four residents to express his gratitude and present plaques of appreciation.
First, a plaque of appreciation was presented to Seo Jeong-sook, who runs ‘Hyeri Yeosu Dolsan Gat Kimchi’ in Guui 3-dong. Since March last year, Seo has been operating ‘Thousand Won Breakfast’ for underprivileged university students in Gwangjin-gu for the first time. The profits have been donated to organizations for the disabled, showing her exceptional love for neighbors and the community.
Jang Chun-jo, who runs ‘Somunnan Dumplings’ at Jayang Traditional Market, has donated rice worth 5 million won annually since 2014, totaling 23,840 kg to date. The donated rice has been a great help to neighbors in need.
The siblings Yoon Woo-yeol and Yoon Nam-hee, who operate ‘Brother Hanjeongsik’ in Gunja-dong, also stood out. They provide free lunchboxes every month to children in difficult circumstances and delivered 100 lunchboxes to senior citizens at community centers during holidays.
Cha Ok-bun from Junggok 4-dong saved the life of an elderly person living alone. As the leader of the 12th community group, Cha discovered an elderly person collapsed and groaning inside their home during a neighborhood patrol. She immediately contacted the 119 rescue team and provided first aid. Thanks to Cha’s prompt response, a tragic incident was averted.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I express my deep gratitude and respect for the warm hearts and dedication shown by the unsung heroes of our neighborhood,” adding, “We will continue to actively find exemplary residents in the community and foster a warm community culture where neighbors live together.”
