Chungnam Province has decided to request a police investigation into a public official in connection with allegations that the wife of Kim Kiyoung, the governor of Seocheon County, received a luxury bag.
According to Chungnam Province and other sources on the 24th, the Provincial Audit Committee has been conducting an audit after allegations were raised through the Anonymous Public Official Corruption Reporting Center regarding the luxury bag received by Governor Kim's wife and allegations of illegal pre-election campaigning at a log cabin.
Of the four public officials involved, the Audit Committee plans to refer one to the police for investigation and transfer the other three to the Seocheon County Election Commission on suspicion of violating the Public Official Election Act.
An official from the province said, "We cannot confirm anything as the matter is still under investigation."
Meanwhile, the Provincial Audit Committee also plans to conduct a special audit regarding illegal activities related to the development of a recreation site by Governor Kim and his family.
