The student assignment plan for the 2025 academic year in the standardized high school districts of Gyeonggi Province has been announced.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced on the 24th that it will assign students using the "priority multiple applications - subsequent lottery" method based on the preference rankings for 202 general high schools in nine standardized school districts including Suwon, Goyang, and Yongin.
First, the "In-District Assignment" method allows students to select and rank five schools from all general high schools within the district where they reside, regardless of the location of their middle school. Six districts?Suwon, Seongnam, Anyang, Goyang, Ansan, and Yongin?will prioritize the "In-District Assignment" in the first phase. In the second phase, the "In-Zone Assignment" will be applied to all students who were not assigned a school in the first phase. However, Hyangdong High School in the Goyang district and Cheorin High School in the Yongin district will temporarily implement only the "In-District Assignment."
The "In-Zone Assignment" targets all general high schools within the zone of the student's middle school and assigns students through a computer lottery reflecting their preference rankings.
Three districts?Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, and Uijeongbu?consisting of a single zone will only conduct the first phase, "In-District Assignment." However, unlike other districts where students select five schools, in these areas students rank all schools within the district from first to last preference before assignment.
Meanwhile, applicants to foreign language high schools, international high schools, and autonomous private high schools who wish to do so may simultaneously apply to standardized district school districts.
In such cases, the first preference must be a foreign language high school, international high school, or autonomous private high school, and from the second preference onward, students must apply to schools within the district or zone in order of preference. If a student is not accepted to their first-choice school, they will be assigned through a lottery reflecting their preferences from the second choice onward.
The Provincial Office of Education will hold online briefings on the student assignment plan for standardized high school districts by district starting in September.
Kim Seong-jin, Director of Career and Vocational Education at the Provincial Office of Education, stated, "We hope that middle schools in standardized districts will fully understand the 2025 student assignment plan by district and provide accurate counseling to students. The Office of Education will do its best to fairly assign students to standardized high schools according to their preference rankings."
