The Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency will host Asia's first international artificial intelligence (AI) startup event this September.

The agency announced on the 24th that it will hold the "2024 Gyeonggi Startup Summit" from September 25 to 27 at the Suwon Convention Center (Gwanggyo) and Startup Campus (Pangyo), and is recruiting startups to participate in the event.

Hosted by Gyeonggi Province and co-organized by the agency and Spain's "South Summit," this event is Asia's first international AI startup event. It is designed to expand the global reach of the domestic startup market.

Started in 2012, the South Summit is Southern Europe's largest startup expo, having attracted 13 trillion KRW in investments over 10 years and produced more than seven unicorn companies.

The agency expects that cooperation with the internationally recognized Spanish South Summit will provide domestic startups with a foothold for entering the European market.

The "2024 Gyeonggi Startup Summit," held for the first time in Asia this September, will focus on future strategic industries centered on AI and deep tech, with about 20,000 startup stakeholders and investors from home and abroad participating.

The expo will feature global corporate open innovation, VC meetups, AI-related conferences, startup IR pitching, and exhibitions. Through this, it will provide a platform for mutual exchange and local market information to companies and investors interested in entering the European market.

Participating companies will receive full support free of charge for exhibition booths, including plasma display panels (PDP), graphic spaces, furniture and fixtures, lighting, and electricity needed for booth operation.

Kang Seong-cheon, head of the agency, expressed expectations, saying, "This summit will help domestic startups expand globally and open global networks and investment opportunities for innovative technology companies such as those in AI."
