14th Superintendent Meets with Citizens
Discussion on School Meal Inspection and Support for Sportswear Expenses
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Cheon Changsoo met with executives of the Parent Network and regional representatives this year to communicate about Ulsan's education policies.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Changsoo) held the 14th “Superintendent Meets Citizens” event on the 22nd at the Jiphyeon Room of the Office of Education, inviting executives of the 2024 Parent Network and about 10 regional representatives.
Cheon Changsu, Superintendent of Ulsan Education, is having a communication session with the parent association executives.
The Parent Association Network is a program that supports parents in each region to actively participate in Ulsan education as key stakeholders by assisting with parent association activities, sharing best practices, monitoring education policies, gathering parents’ opinions, and encouraging healthy school participation. The Ulsan Office of Education has organized parent association representatives by school level and region into 36 areas.
At the event, attending parents exchanged various opinions on Ulsan education policies, including school meal inspections and management, school uniform and gym uniform purchases, and dedicated school violence investigators.
Superintendent Cheon Changsoo stated, “Communication between parents and schools is more important than anything else. We are working to ensure parents can actively participate as key stakeholders in education,” and added, “We will also expand parent capacity-building education so that parents can autonomously plan and carry out a variety of activities.”
On this day, one parent requested improvements to the system, noting that some schools conduct school meal inspections only on specific days.
In response, Superintendent Cheon promised, “School meal inspections are operated autonomously by each school. We will guide schools to reflect the opinions of the parent inspection teams as much as possible when establishing meal inspection plans.”
Another parent asked whether gym uniforms could be purchased with the school uniform subsidy.
Superintendent Cheon replied, “It is difficult to purchase gym uniforms with the school uniform subsidy. Currently, a related ordinance to support gym uniform costs is under legislative notice,” and added, “If this ordinance passes the city council, we plan to provide support to first-year middle and high school students starting next year.”
