On the 24th, the Leeum Museum of Art announced that it will carry out the 'Aerocene Seoul' project with Argentine installation artist Tom?s Saraceno (51) until September 25.
Tom?s Saraceno, who lives and works in Berlin, Germany, is an artist who creates unique artworks inspired by various scientific fields such as aerodynamics, biology, and astronomy. He explores the interactions between nature and humans, technology and the environment, offering audiences new visual experiences.
The 'Aerocene' started by Saraceno is an interdisciplinary community where various artists, activists, philosophers, and scientists from around the world gather to perform joint actions for ecological social justice. Currently active in 43 countries and 12 cities, the activities began in 2007 with the 'Museo Aerosolar' project and were established as a foundation in 2015.

Aerocene Seoul conducts workshops for 'Museo Aerosolar' and 'Aerocene Backpack' together with the international Aerocene community. Through this, everyone participates in the ecological social justice movement toward an era where all live and breathe together.
For 'Museo Aerosolar,' the Leeum Museum of Art collects used plastic bags from residents through collection boxes set up throughout Yongsan-gu, Seoul, including the Yongsan District Office and community centers, until August 4. Afterward, a patchwork process of cutting and pasting over 5,000 collected plastic bags will be carried out, followed by workshops where participants express their environmental concerns through drawings and messages on the patchwork.
The completed patchwork will be flown into the air at the end of August and then exhibited at the Leeum Museum of Art starting in early September.
The Leeum Museum of Art will also conduct Aerocene Backpack workshops with regional museums in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, and other areas. The Aerocene Backpack is a portable kit of Aerosolar sculptures that float in the air using solar heat without helium, hydrogen, solar panels, or batteries. Workshop participants write messages about care and ecological social justice and directly launch the portable flying sculptures into the sky.
In September, the project will conclude with a panel discussion on ecological social justice and climate debt, a screening of the documentary 'Flying with Pacha Toward Aerocene,' and the publication of the Korean editions of 'Aerocene Newspaper I, II,' creating a forum for discussion and public debate.
The Aerocene Seoul project is part of the Leeum Museum of Art's public program 'Idea Museum.' Idea Museum is a program started by the Leeum Museum of Art in November last year with support from the Chanel Culture Fund, focusing on 'ecological transition' as a theme and conducting various events annually for three years addressing climate crisis and gender issues.
