Daekwang Committee Chairman Kang Heeup Visits Ulsan Urban Railway Site
Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom Requests Cooperation for Line 1 and 2 Construction
On the 24th, Ulsan City announced that Kang Heeup, Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Transportation Committee, will visit Ulsan to inspect the progress of the Ulsan Urban Railway Line 1 project.
Before the site visit, in the morning, he will visit City Hall to have a meeting with Ulsan Mayor Kim Dukyum to listen to local issues.
At this meeting, Mayor Kim Dukyum will request and seek cooperation on the following matters: securing national funding for Ulsan Urban Railway Line 1 in 2025 and prompt approval of the basic plan; selection of Ulsan Urban Railway Line 2 as a target for the preliminary feasibility study in the second half of 2024; and inclusion of the Munsuro Bypass Road in the 5th Metropolitan Area Traffic Congestion Road Improvement Plan (2026-2030).
In the afternoon, Chairman Kang Heeup will visit the site of the Ulsan Urban Railway Line 1 project to receive reports from officials on the progress of the city's urban railway and other transportation infrastructure issues, and to discuss countermeasures.
Ulsan Urban Railway Line 1 is an innovative rail transit system being introduced for the first time in Ulsan, which currently has no urban railway. It will be constructed in a tram format along Samsan-ro, Munsu-ro, and Daehak-ro.
Currently, the final administrative procedures are underway for the approval of the basic plan, with completion targeted for December 2028.
He will also visit the site of the Munsuro Bypass Road. This bypass road is being constructed as a four-lane, 2.7 km road from Mugok-Okdong District in Nam-gu to Namsan Leisure Sports Park to help disperse traffic from Munsu-ro, Ulsan's main east-west arterial road, due to nearby residential development projects and the construction of Urban Railway Line 1.
Mayor Kim Dukyum stated, "We will ensure the successful construction of the environmentally friendly hydrogen electric tram Urban Railway Line 1, the early implementation of Line 2, and the inclusion of the Munsuro Bypass Road in higher-level plans without any setbacks. We also request administrative cooperation from the Metropolitan Area Transportation Committee, including timely allocation of national funds and prompt approval of the basic plan."
