Learn Traditional Crafts for Free from National Intangible Heritage Masters

Traditional Culture Education Center, Second Half Traditional Craft Experience Education

The Traditional Culture Education Center at Korea National University of Cultural Heritage announced on the 24th that it will operate the second half traditional craft experience education from November 19 to December 6. Eighteen courses will be taught, including two newly established somok (woodcraft) courses.

At the Seoul Learning Center, participants can learn Dancheong (patterns and decorative painting), mosa (bird-and-flower painting and portrait painting), traditional seal carving, and traditional quilting. The Sejong Learning Center offers courses in Dancheong (patterns and decorative painting), seal carving (traditional and design), baecheop (scroll mounting and bookbinding), and mosa (bird-and-flower painting and portrait painting). The Daegu Learning Center operates four courses including traditional seal carving, traditional embroidery, and somok (1 and 2).

Experts in each field, such as holders of national intangible cultural heritage and national heritage repair technicians, participate as instructors. The education focuses on hands-on experience and practice. Participants can learn traditional craft techniques and directly draw or create patterns and works. Tuition and equipment usage fees are all free. Only some consumable materials need to be purchased.

The Traditional Culture Education Center selects up to fifteen students for each course. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from the 29th of this month to the 11th of next month.
