Gyeonggi Province has reported 8 real estate agents suspected of involvement in jeonse fraud and identified a total of 293 cases.
On the 24th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it detected 80 cases through a special inspection of suspected jeonse fraud involvement (March to June) and 213 cases through guidance and crackdown on illegal brokerage activities by licensed real estate agents (April to June) in the first half of this year.
First, from March 4 to April 26, Gyeonggi Province inspected a total of 450 real estate agents, including 370 who had conducted at least one transaction involving properties consulted at the Gyeonggi Jeonse Damage Support Center and 80 agents located in areas densely populated with newly built villas, uncovering 88 illegal acts at 80 locations (17.8%).
Among these 88 cases, 8 were suspected of involvement in jeonse fraud, including 6 cases where brokerage fees exceeding the legal limit were charged during lease contract mediation, and these were referred for investigation. Additionally, one agent who did not meet registration standards had their registration canceled.
Furthermore, 20 agents were suspended from business for improper contract writing, failure to keep contracts, and failure to report brokerage assistants.
Gyeonggi Province is making efforts to protect residents' property rights by conducting special inspections on jeonse fraud and biannual guidance and crackdowns on illegal brokerage activities by licensed real estate agents. In particular, to prevent jeonse damage, on the 15th, the province held the 'Gyeonggi Safe Jeonse Project Launch Ceremony' and launched the 'Safe Jeonse Gatekeeper Movement' involving 30,000 licensed real estate agents in the province, along with the public-private joint 'Safe Jeonse Management Team.'
