On the 24th, LG Uplus announced that the newly developed web-based in-vehicle game service 'Game Portal' will be installed in The Kia EV3, Kia's model for popularizing electric vehicles. This is the first time Game Portal is provided in a domestic brand vehicle.
Game Portal is characterized by being web-based, allowing users to conveniently access games without downloading individual game apps.
Game Portal is applied to The Kia EV3 under the name 'Arcade Games.' It offers a total of eight games, including popular titles from the mobile game specialist company 'Mobirix,' such as 'Tower Defense King,' 'Brick Break Quest,' and 'Marvel Mission.' These are casual games that can be enjoyed with just a touch in a short time.
The game screens have been adjusted to fit the display size of The Kia EV3. Performance and user interface have also been optimized according to the vehicle's computing specifications.
To use the service, users need to purchase the digital specification of the arcade games on the 'Kia Connect Store' webpage after logging in with their own account. Operation is not possible while driving and is expected to be used when the vehicle is stationary or waiting for charging.
LG Uplus developed Game Portal and commercialized the service in cooperation with Hyundai Motor Company and Kia, anticipating that vehicles could become a gaming platform in the autonomous driving era. In April, they signed a business agreement with Mobirix and plan to continue mid- to long-term cooperation.
In the future, LG Uplus plans to diversify the content offered, including high-spec games and paid games, and expand the service to other Kia models. They also intend to develop games that can be enjoyed in connection with various devices such as smartphone joypads, car wheels, and pedals, diversifying their business model.
Kang Jong-oh, Head of Mobility Business at LG Uplus (Executive Director), said, "Based on the car infotainment capabilities we have built so far, we are striving to lead the market by launching game services as well," adding, "We will continue to discover diverse content and provide customers with differentiated car life experiences."
