Gwanak-gu Childcare Comprehensive Center 'Family Happiness Center' Expansion and Relocation

Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) has taken proactive steps to actively respond to the increasingly diverse and complex childcare and parenting demands for infants and toddlers.

In June 2021, the district established the ‘Gwanak Family Happiness Center’ in Sinsa-dong, the first of its kind in Gwanak-gu, a six-story building serving as a family cultural complex and playing a central role.

Accordingly, the district expanded and relocated the ‘Gwanak-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center’ to the Family Happiness Center, enabling parents to manage childcare in a one-stop manner and allowing infants and toddlers to enjoy play facilities and educational programs in a larger and more comfortable environment.

The center offers play facilities and services tailored to children’s eye levels on each floor. ▲1st floor: play experience hall using media and operation of AI robot Riku Theater ▲2nd floor: infant and toddler toy (book) library and co-parenting room ‘I-rang’ ▲3rd floor: family cultural performance hall (auditorium) ▲4th floor: education program rooms.

In particular, the ‘Infant and Toddler Toy (Book) Library’ holds a collection of about 6,000 toys and books, and offers rentals at an affordable annual fee of 10,000 KRW, significantly reducing the financial burden on parents.

This year, the toy library has already recorded 8,539 toy rentals and 3,177 book rentals, receiving great response from parents.

Additionally, since April this year, a service delivering requested toys free of charge to the doorstep has started, gaining great popularity especially these days when outdoor activities are difficult due to weather and other reasons.

Moreover, the center offers various courses tailored to diverse needs, including ▲childcare staff training (such as child abuse prevention) ▲common parent education (parenting stress management, etc.) ▲family participation programs ▲parent-child programs (such as Ttinitni physical activities) ▲parent participation programs (self-help groups, etc.) ▲support for parents and families of children with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the district operates various infant and toddler facilities to provide parents with high-quality childcare services and spaces, including ▲Gwanak-style childcare centers (co-parenting rooms) ‘I-rang’ ▲time-based childcare facilities.

Also, in February this year, the Gwanak-style childcare center (co-parenting sharing space) ‘I-rang Euncheon Branch’ was opened, offering various specialized programs such as play, cultural experiences, and parenting coaching. In March, the ‘Seoul-style Kids Cafe No.1 Gwanak-gu Nangok-dong Branch’ was opened, operating as a drawing (art) specialized play space, gaining great popularity among parents as a differentiated childcare facility unique to Gwanak-gu.

District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Our district operates various infant and toddler facilities and programs so that children can grow up happily and healthily,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to provide high-quality customized infant and toddler services so that both children and parents can be happy in Gwanak-gu.”
