Community Village Gardeners Emerge... Garden City Yeongdeungpo Holds 1st Village Gardener Graduation Ceremony

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced on the 23rd that it successfully held the "1st Yeongdeungpo Village Gardener Completion Ceremony" attended by 21 village gardeners composed of residents.

On this day, the district presented certificates of completion to the 21 village gardeners with congratulations and expressed gratitude. In addition, a special lecture by Yoon Ho-jun, CEO of ‘Jogyunghada Yeoreum,’ was arranged for the village gardeners who actively participated in the training course, providing professional and practical information on garden creation.

The village gardeners diligently completed a 10-week training program at the Yeongdeungpo Garden Culture Center located in Yeongdeungpo Park and Mullae-dong Flower Garden, covering basic theoretical education such as ▲garden design ▲plant selection and management ▲eco-friendly gardening techniques, as well as hands-on practice in garden creation.

Composed of residents, the village gardeners will directly participate in garden creation and management within the community as ‘garden cultivators,’ working together with the district to build Yeongdeungpo-gu as a garden city. In particular, they plan to collaborate with the ‘Seoul Citizens Garden Society,’ active throughout Seoul, to create gardens in parks, schools, welfare facilities, as well as in small spaces along streets and residential areas, thereby expanding green spaces in the urban environment.

Encouraged by the high satisfaction and interest of the trainees, the district plans to open additional village gardener training courses in the second half of this year. Furthermore, the district intends to discover various resident participation urban greening projects to broaden opportunities for village gardeners to grow into ‘specialized village gardeners by base area.’

Meanwhile, the Yeongdeungpo Garden Culture Center operates various programs related to plants and gardens. These include the ‘Companion Plant Hospital,’ which provides plant species management methods and consultations, the village gardener training program, and one-day classes held twice a week, offering opportunities to create ‘my own garden’ with succulents, herbs, hanging plants, and more.

Participation in the programs can be applied for through the Seoul Metropolitan Government Public Service Reservation website, and detailed information can be obtained from the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website or the district’s Green City Division.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We look forward to the active activities and enthusiastic participation of the village gardeners who will create the garden city Yeongdeungpo-gu together with the district.” He added, “We will do our best to revitalize a resident participation-type garden culture by providing various opportunities for residents to directly cultivate and enjoy gardens.”
