Kim Cheollak (80), a resident of Ahyeon-dong in Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su), has warmed the hearts of those around him with his generous donation, becoming a topic of conversation.
On the morning of July 18, a donation ceremony for Kim Cheollak's filial piety meal sponsorship was held at the Mapo-gu Office policy meeting room.
The ceremony was attended by donor Kim Cheollak, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, and Lee Hong-ju, Chairman of the Mapo Welfare Foundation, who came to express their gratitude.
On that day, Kim Cheollak donated 3.07 million won in 500-won coins, which he had been delivering weekly to the Ahyeon-dong Community Service Center since early this year, to the Mapo Welfare Foundation for the filial piety meal project.
Regarding his decision to donate, Mr. Kim said, “I found a piggy bank that my wife, who passed away two years ago due to illness, used to collect money. I thought I should continue my wife's warm acts of kindness, as she used to help neighbors,” adding, “Although it is not a large amount, I am rather grateful for the great interest shown.”
He continued, “I heard that Mapo-gu has a filial piety meal project for our elderly, and I wanted to contribute even a little,” and added, “I believe my wife in heaven is watching this donation with great satisfaction.”
Mr. Kim’s beautiful heart will be fully conveyed to the elderly receiving the filial piety meals.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The selfless heart of Mr. Kim Cheollak and his wife, who think of others before themselves, will be a great example to our society,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that not a single won of the donation is wasted and is used for the filial piety meal project in accordance with the elder’s wishes.”
