Statement on the Suspension of Execution Granted for the Reconsideration of the Student Human Rights Ordinance Repeal Bill

Suspension of Execution Granted for Reconsideration of Student Human Rights Ordinance Repeal Bill... Seoul Metropolitan Council "Thoroughly Preparing for Main Trial to Confirm Invalidity" Chairman Choi Hojung

The Supreme Court Special Division 1 on the 23rd ruled in favor of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's request filed on July 11 against the Seoul Metropolitan Council for a suspension of execution regarding the reapproval of the ordinance to repeal the Student Human Rights Ordinance.

The Seoul Metropolitan Council plans to thoroughly prepare for the main lawsuit confirming the invalidity of the reapproval of the ordinance to repeal the Student Human Rights Ordinance currently underway and will contest the legitimacy of the reapproval.

Chairperson Choi Ho-jung stated, "In the upcoming main lawsuit proceedings, we will clarify that the ordinance to repeal the Student Human Rights Ordinance, which was proposed, deliberated, and reapproved through proper procedures and includes reasonable alternative legislation for problem resolution, is lawful and appropriate legislation that does not conflict with higher laws."

She added, "We will further protect student human rights through the already enacted and enforced ordinance concerning the rights and responsibilities of school members under the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. At the same time, to help students grow into rational and democratic citizens, the three main school stakeholders?students, teachers, and parents?will fulfill their responsibilities to restore an educational order based on mutual respect."
