[Weather] Heavy Rain Expected Until Tomorrow Morning... Then Nationwide Heatwave

From the afternoon of the 23rd to the morning of the 24th, the rainy season rain will fall in the central region and northern Gyeongbuk. Afterwards, the entire country is expected to be very hot as it will be on the edge of the North Pacific High.


The amount of rain expected to fall by the morning of the 24th is 20-60mm in the metropolitan area, the five western islands, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, 10-60mm in northern Chungnam, southern Chungnam west coast, northern Chungbuk, and northern Gyeongbuk. Northern Jeonbuk west coast will receive 10-50mm, Daejeon, Sejong, southern inland Chungnam, central Chungbuk, and southern Chungbuk 5-40mm, eastern southern coast of Jeonnam, Busan, southern coast of Gyeongnam, and Jeju 5-20mm, southern Gangwon east coast 5-10mm, and Ulleungdo and Dokdo around 5mm.


In the metropolitan area and Gangwon, rainfall of about 30mm per hour is expected from night of the 23rd to early morning of the 24th. In southern Gyeonggi and southern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, hourly rainfall may reach 30-50mm. In northern Gyeongbuk, heavy rain of about 30mm per hour is expected in the early morning of the 24th.


As the stationary front moves north, the area will be out of its influence after the morning of the 24th, and instead, it is expected to be on the edge of the North Pacific High, which has expanded northward pushed by Typhoon No. 3 "Gaemi".


The situation of the entire country being under the influence of the North Pacific High is expected to continue on the 25th as well. Therefore, both temperature and humidity will be high, and the very hot conditions will persist. There may be showers inland, which could temporarily lower the temperature, but it will rise again and the heat will continue.


The forecast for the morning low temperature on the 24th is 23-27 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high temperature is 29-34 degrees Celsius. The expected low and high temperatures for major cities are Seoul and Busan 25°C and 30°C, Incheon 24°C and 29°C, Daejeon 26°C and 32°C, Gwangju 26°C and 33°C, Daegu 26°C and 34°C, and Ulsan 26°C and 33°C.


From the 24th, swells will flow into the west coast, south coast, and Jeju coast, causing high waves. Storm surge warnings may be issued overnight for the west coast, south coast, and Jeju coast.
