The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced the 'Resolution Urging the Investigation of the Osong Disaster 1st Anniversary,' which was proposed by Representative Im Seong-hwa, at the 2nd plenary session of the 324th extraordinary meeting on the 23rd.
Representative Im stated, "On the 15th, 14 innocent citizens lost their lives due to the flooding of the river at the underground passage of Gungpyeong 2 in Osong-eup, Cheongju," emphasizing that "this was a clear man-made disaster caused by irresponsible construction and the government's inadequate response."
Furthermore, Representative Im pointed out that despite the tragedy resulting in 14 deaths, the investigation has stalled since the day of the disaster, and urged that for the bereaved families, only a prompt national audit by the National Assembly to uncover the truth and punish those responsible can preserve the citizens' memory and ensure justice.
In response, all Seo-gu council members strongly urged the National Assembly to promptly conduct a national audit to investigate the truth and punish those responsible, and called for the Yoon Seok-yeol administration to establish fundamental measures to prevent recurrence.
