Jeju Olle Course 5 is a trail stretching 13.4 km from Namwon Port to Soesokkak, centered around the Geuneung Coastal Scenic Area, which is considered 'the most beautiful coastal walking path in Korea.' Although it takes about 4 to 5 hours to complete, the path offers spectacular views of the dramatic lava cliffs created by Jeju Island's volcanic activity, the soothing sound of waves, and occasional forest tunnels that provide a refreshing break, making it a trail you can complete before you know it. Additionally, there is an official Jeju Olle information center where visitors can learn about the origin and history of Jeju Olle and receive various materials to help with their walk.
The starting point of Course 5 is Namwon Port. From here, the trail passes through the Geuneung Walkway, Wimi Camellia Forest, Secheon Port, Neopbillemul, and Mangjangpo before reaching the Soesokkak Bridge. The first notable spot, the Geuneung Walkway, along with Dombenang-gil near Oedolgae, is considered one of the most beautiful coastal walking paths in Korea. Towering 15 to 20 meters high, the dramatic cliffs surround the area like fortress walls, and about halfway along the walkway is Geuneung, the namesake of the area. In Jeju dialect, "eong" refers to a rock shade or cave formed in cliffs or by the sea.
The Wimi Camellia Forest is a place where you can see camellia flowers, a symbol of Jeju Island. While most flowers bloom in spring and summer, camellias bloom in the middle of winter. They bloom from mid-November to early March, with the most beautiful period being December to January. If you visit at the right time, you can enjoy the breathtaking sight of bright red camellia flowers covered with a thick layer of white snow. Next, you will arrive at Neopbillemul, which means spring water flowing from a wide "bille." In Jeju, "bille" refers to a relatively flat terrain formed by flowing lava. The cold spring water gushes abundantly here, making it a perfect spot to cool off and relax with freshwater bathing during the summer.
Finally, Soesokkak, which has recently become famous as one of Jeju Island's 'three major scenic spots,' is the last destination. The name comes from the deep pool formed where freshwater from the Hyodoncheon estuary (gak) meets seawater. The clear valley formed by the meeting of these two waters is so transparent that you can see the bottom clearly. Here, you can experience the pristine water firsthand by canoeing in the pool.
