Lee Sang-hoon, Chairman of the Korea Energy Agency, stated, "Through establishing close communication and cooperation systems between institutions, we will fulfill our responsibilities in developing and distributing distributed energy, analyzing performance and providing information, discovering new policies, and fostering new industries, all aimed at revitalizing distributed energy."


On the 22nd, the Energy Agency held the launch ceremony of the 'Distributed Energy Promotion Center' at its headquarters in Ulsan, together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ulsan Metropolitan City Hall, and related organizations involved in the activation of distributed energy.

The Energy Agency, along with the Korea Power Exchange, was designated as the 'Distributed Energy Promotion Center' under Article 54 of the Special Act on the Activation of Distributed Energy by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 1st of this month. This event marked the official start of its operations.


The launch ceremony was attended by about 10 representatives from related organizations involved in distributed energy activation, including Park Sang-hee, Director of New Industry Distributed Energy Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Son Seong-dong, Director of Energy Industry Division at Ulsan City, Korea Power Exchange, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and the Smart Grid Association. Presentations on the Energy Agency’s operation plan for the Distributed Energy Promotion Center were given, followed by discussions on joint cooperation plans among the participating organizations.


Since July 2019, the Energy Agency has established the Distributed Energy Office and closely supported the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy during the enactment process of the Special Act on the Activation of Distributed Energy and the preparation of subordinate laws and regulations.


Chairman Lee said, "Taking the designation of the Distributed Energy Promotion Center as an opportunity, we plan to strengthen related organizations and expertise to faithfully support distributed energy policies and system operations. To revitalize distributed energy, efforts from not only one institution but also the central government, local governments, related organizations, and relevant industries are essential."
