3D Printing Technology Becomes Reality in the Shipbuilding Industry

Ulsan City Signs Agreement to Develop Shipbuilding and Offshore Lost and Damaged Materials Platform

The application of 3D printing technology is becoming a reality in the shipbuilding industry. On the 23rd, Ulsan City announced its plan to integrate 3D technology into the field to strengthen the competitiveness of the shipbuilding industry.

At 5 p.m. on the 23rd, Ulsan City will sign a business agreement at the Tani Bay Hotel in Dong-gu for the development and operation of an online platform that supplies shipbuilding and marine loss and damage materials through 3D printing.

Participants in this agreement include Ulsan City, Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency, Korea 3D Printing Convergence Technology Association, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

According to the agreement, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will place orders for loss and damage materials generated during shipbuilding with Ulsan-based 3D printing root companies through the 3D printing online platform, and these companies will manufacture the products and deliver them to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency will be responsible for managing the 3D printing company database (DB) and jointly operating the 3D printing online platform, while the Korea 3D Printing Convergence Technology Association will handle the development and joint operation of the 3D printing online platform.

Additionally, Ulsan City will provide budget support related to the Ulsan 3D Printing Root Industry Specialized Complex Support Project for the 3D printing online platform.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "Once the 3D printing online platform is developed, it is expected to create a new business model that enables mutually beneficial business between demand and supply companies," and added, "We will successfully complete the development and expand its application to other industrial sectors."
